In 1953, twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell co-founded Body Glove when they designed the first practical wetsuit. Almost 60 years later Body Glove is one of very few family owned surf/dive brands in the world.

Foam E-Z was founded in 1993 by Brad Nadell and Steve Adler (RIP). The shop was initially started in order to provide foam to the in-house shapers at The Surfboard Factory and other shapers in the area… i.e. Surf Prescriptions, Cordell Surfboards, Chas Performance, Pesce Surfboards, Poi Dog, A-39, Mohn, Sakal, Line Up, Wallin, and Country Surfboards. As the word started to travel, more and more shapers began to buy blanks from Foam E-Z! For more than a decade, Foam E-Z has provided blanks for some of the top names in the world, including JC Hawaii, Quiksilver, Spyder Surfboards, Harbour Surfboards, Robert August, Hawaiian Island Creations, Bunger Surfboards (East Coast), and Nuuhiwa Surfboards.

Based in Sun Valley, Idaho, Smith Optics, Inc. was founded in 1965 with the creation of the first-ever goggle featuring a sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam. In the early years, founder Dr. Bob Smith, an orthodontist by trade, made goggles by hand using dental tools, foam and glue. Before he struck a deal for manufacturing of Smith goggles in the late 60′s, Smith would often trade his creations for lift tickets. These early prototypes were usually manufactured by Smith and friends around the kitchen table.

We started Arbor in 1995 convinced that there was a need for brands willing to take responsibility for the impact their products have on the environment.
